The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, will honor beloved actress Rose Byrne as the Woman of the Year on February 13th. Byrne has crafted some of the most iconic performances of the 21st century, including Neighbors, Bridesmaids, Insidious, and Damages, to her Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning role in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. The Australian actress joins a prestigious list of past honorees, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Scarlett Johansson, Anne Hathaway, Kerry Washington, and, most recently, Cynthia Erivo, the 75th Woman of the Year.
“Rose may have been a bridesmaid, but now it’s her turn to walk down the aisle… or should we say, parade through Harvard Square?” said Producer Cate Schwarz. “After fighting demons and zombies, we’re sure Rose is well prepared to earn her pudding pot.”
The festivities will begin with a parade through Harvard Square. Byrne has a masterful range, crafting roles that span comedy to thriller, which perfectly prepares her to take on a celebratory roast at 7:00 pm, where the troupe will present her with her Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall. Following Boston will be reporting live from the press conference at 7:20 pm.
“We are thrilled to honor Rose Byrne as our Woman of the Year,” said Hasty Pudding Theatricals President Daisy Nussbaum. “Hot off a Golden Globe win and an Oscar nomination, it’s only right that she receives the most prestigious award of all: a pudding pot.”
Afterwards, Ms. Byrne will attend a performance of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 177th production, Salooney Tunes.
Salooney Tunes is a knee-slapping, nail-biting heist-gone-wrong that follows notorious outlaw Robin Yablind and his fame-hungry sidekick Aiden N Abettin. They must find a way to avoid Mayor Gerri Mandarin and pregnant Sheriff Carrie N Twins, who are on the hunt to put them behind bars. Chock-full of lovable characters like skittish saloon owner Bart Ender, sultry saloon-singer Sarah Problem, and twelve-year-old dancer Anna Fivesix-Fivesixseveneight, Salooney Tunes's twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat.
