The Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the oldest theatrical organization in the United States, will honor legendary actor Michael Keaton as the 59th Man of the Year on February 6th. Keaton has crafted some of the most diverse performances of the 21st century, including when he revisited his beloved role of Beetlejuice this past year in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. He is one of the few leading men whose films, Spotlight and Birdman, won the Academy Award for Best Picture back-to-back, and has an iconic filmography spanning from Batman to Dumbo. Keaton joins a prestigious list of past honorees, including Tom Hanks, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Samuel L. Jackson, and last year’s recipient, Jon Hamm.
The festivities will begin with a celebratory roast on the evening of February 6th in the Pudding’s historic theater in Farkas Hall. President and Man of the Year Coordinator Daisy Nussbaum shared, “We know he can handle the Joker, but let’s see if he can handle the jokes.”
Following an insightful press conference, Keaton will join members of the community for the premiere of the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 177th production, Salooney Tunes. “We cannot wait to welcome him on February 6th: until then, don’t say his name three times!” said Producer Eloise Tunnell.
Salooney Tunes is a knee-slapping, nail-biting heist-gone-wrong that follows notorious outlaw Robin Yablind and his fame-hungry sidekick Aiden N Abettin. They must find a way to avoid Mayor Gerri Mandarin and pregnant Sheriff Carrie N Twins, who are on the hunt to put them behind bars. Chock-full of lovable characters like skittish saloon owner Bart Ender, sultry saloon-singer Sarah Problem, and twelve-year-old dancer Anna Fivesix-Fivesixseveneight, Salooney Tunes's twists and turns will keep you on the edge of your seat.
