Athens, Georgia’s Futurebirds bring their expansive blend of country-rock, psychedelia, and Southern storytelling to Arts at the Armory on June 11, fresh off the release of their ambitious first-ever double LP, Far Out Country.

Released June 5 via Dualtone Records, Far Out Country marks a major artistic statement from the band and arrives in a unique physical-first format, with the full double album initially available only on vinyl before the second half eventually reaches streaming platforms months later. The release has already generated significant buzz from outlets including Brooklyn Vegan, Relix, and Stereogum, the latter describing the project as “both a title and a mission statement.”

The latest single, “Fly On,” accompanied by a dreamy and transportive official video centered around an antique store detour gone beautifully off course, captures the reflective spirit that runs throughout the new record. Earlier previews from the Sienna Life EP—including “Sienna Life,” “Sleepless in the Cage,” and “Ghost Moon”—offered fans an early glimpse into the album’s rich textures and emotional honesty.

Fronted by the trio of Daniel “Womz” Womack, Carter King, and Thomas “Tojo” Johnson, Futurebirds continue to thrive on the chemistry of three unique songwriting voices working in conversation with one another. Across 18 songs, Far Out Country explores themes of family, fatherhood, aging, and the tension between life on the road and life back home.

“This record is us trying to take an honest look at ourselves, and where we’ve been,” says King, reflecting on the deeply personal nature of the album.

Produced in part by GRAMMY-winning producer Brad Cook, known for his work with Waxahatchee and MJ Lenderman, the album was split between live-to-tape sessions at Sonic Ranch in Texas and more detailed studio experimentation elsewhere. The result is a record that balances the loose electricity of Futurebirds’ live performances with moments of thoughtful introspection.

That live energy remains one of the band’s defining traits. Rolling Stone once called Futurebirds “one of the most fascinating and captivating rock acts touring today,” and fans attending the Boston stop can expect a set that blends fan favorites with the sweeping new material from Far Out Country.

Futurebirds features Brannen Miles (bass), Carter King (vocals/guitar), Daniel Womack (vocals/guitar), Thomas Johnson (vocals/guitar), and Tom Myers (drums).
